- 2 years to fileMost California personal injury lawsuits must be filed within two years of the injury (Code of Civil Procedure §335.1).
- 6 months for government claimsIf a city, county, or state agency was involved, such as a Metro bus or a poorly maintained road, a written claim is generally due within six months (Government Code §911.2).

Questions we hear every day
How much is my case worth?
It depends on your medical bills, lost income, future care, how the injury affects your daily life, and how much insurance coverage is available. Anyone who quotes a number before reviewing those details is guessing. A free case review gives you a realistic range.
Should I talk to the other driver’s insurance company?
Not before talking to a lawyer. You should report the accident to your own insurer, but you are generally not required to give the other driver’s insurer a recorded statement. Their adjuster’s job is to pay as little as possible, and early statements are often used to reduce claims.
What if the accident was partly my fault?
You can still recover compensation. California uses pure comparative fault, so your recovery is reduced by your share of fault, not eliminated. Insurers often overstate a driver’s share of fault, so get your case reviewed before accepting their version.
How long does a personal injury case take?
Many cases settle after you finish medical treatment, once the full cost of your injuries is known. Settling earlier can leave money on the table. Cases that go to trial take longer, often a year or more.
Do I need a lawyer for a minor accident?
If nobody was hurt and the damage is small, you may not. If you were injured, missed work, or the insurer is disputing fault, a lawyer usually makes a difference. Some injuries, like whiplash and concussions, show up days later, so get checked by a doctor even if you feel fine.
What does it cost to hire you?
Nothing upfront. We work on contingency, which means our fee comes from the compensation we recover for you. If we don’t recover anything, you owe no attorney fee. We explain fees and costs in writing before you sign anything.
What should I do right after an accident?
Call 911 if anyone is hurt. Take photos of the vehicles, the scene, and your injuries, and get the other driver’s name, insurance, and license plate. See a doctor within a day or two, avoid posting about the accident on social media, and contact us before you talk to any insurer.
